For this assignment I chose to talk about “open-minded” since I consider myself to be a very open-minded person. An open-minded person is that who is able to consider all aspects of any situation, it means to take in all the new ideas and arguments. An open-minded person is also one who has not prejudices or is quick to judge others. One recent situation my family went through where I had to be open-minded to the situation was, when my step-sister found out she was pregnant at a young age and with no income of her own, in her eyes one option was to terminate the pregnancy. Her other option was adoption and last was to keep the baby which was something she knew was going to hard. For many the last option was the right decision, but they were just basing their choice in what their beliefs were and not the circumstances. Being open-minded allowed me to put my beliefs and what I would do to the side and see her situation and what the best decision was for her and her baby. I listened to all the “whys” and gain knowledge to see why she was making this decisions, and even though some of her options were not something I would consider if I was in her situation, I made it clear that I would always support her and that I would not be judgemental to whatever her final decision was. After many long conversation, today I have a beautify niece. Another common situation where I feel a lot of people are very close-minded is when discussing the topic of gay-marriage and whether or not they should have any rights. When it comes to this topic I feel that is everyone’s right to be with who makes them happy. I do not believe anyone should have to fight for the right to be with the one they love, even though I do see where people are coming from when they relate this issue to religion.
