Abstract I chose the topic of franking, after seeing the movie, “Promised Land” it has opened up my eyes to all the harmful effects over the good it would do to a community. I never even heard of the term franking but it is something that Indiana could do so this is something more people should know about. Franking is the hydraulic fracturing technology that the energy industry hopes to use to expand natural gas production in the United States. It is the process of drilling pep into the ground that they buy from farmers or communities and tell them how great it is.
Then they inject fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas inside. What the oil companies don’t tell you is all of the dangers of them breaking shale releases gas not only in their pipes or drills but the fumes leak out into the water supply. The same water supply you bathe in, cook with, and drink holds the fumes in it. There has actually been some video evidence showing where you can actually light the water coming out of your acute with a lighter.
So the way I see it is kind of like oil companies are willing to put these big drills in total strangers back yards, but I bet they don’t have one in theirs. Safety in Franking…. So what if big oil companies found new methods of franking to make it safer to avoid controversy would it change your mind or opinion? What would they have to do to get your back yard or buy your home from you? WSDL you sell your home and not think of the hazards it might cause your neighbors that stayed behind? These are a ewe questions people may need to ask themselves before letting giving them they O.
K. The major debate over franking is generally the pollution left in the ground and the potential effects on the water supply. Some companies have actually developed a new chemical formula which is an attempt to reduce some concerns. Others have actually handed out pamphlets saying how helpful it is to get the gases out of the ground. My thoughts and conclusions I believe that we should be looking for an alternative source for fuel and energy tot another way to extract it from the earth like, using hydro power in cars or even using more of the electric cars.
I am not a save the planet person but I do what I can when I can. I think that my outlook on franking is more like Gifford Ponchos. He put together many different protection laws to preserve the land and he might not have thought about it but also saved the homes of many forest creatures. I love animals and love going hiking and it is people like him that made it possible tort generations later to have these places available to view and see them as they were many years go. If he was around today I am sure that he would not let franking continue.
I was also glad to find out the Indiana does not endorse Franking. I wish that more people would do their research before they took the money and realized are the harm it would do to the ground and nature. It might show up soon but over time it will get worse and worse before it is to late to undo the harmful effects of franking.
