The degree in which to enhancing ones emotional intelligence depends upon the desired outcome. As we age EQ often strengthen. Modification of EQ can be done but it takes a nontraditional approach. Adoption of a new way of thinking in order to defuse older learned behaviors takes a considerable amount of effort from everyone involved, but can be achieved.
Goleman ends by saying while natural born emotional intelligence leaders have a great impact they are on a decline. Social and economical factors play a part in this. It has become essential to teach emotional competencies to improve organizations and society as a whole.
