Dating and Language

Writer’s Letter Initially when given this topic of “language,” I was a little confused. I starred at the instructions for about an hour trying to brainstorm ideas. At first, I wanted to write about Theatre and the role that it has as a universal language across the world. Although there may be a language barrier between the actor and audience member, the scenery, costume, facial expressions, and movement help tell a story. However, I choose not to use this topic because it wasn’t very personal. I actually brainstormed overall ideas before coming across the one that I did.

Even when I had the idea, I wasn’t positive I wanted to use it. Was it too personal? I was really worried that it conveyed a bad image of myself and I didn’t want anyone to really know about it. Finally, I decided that it was appropriate, considering the directions asked for a personal story. It was raw, personal, and very mature. I thought, “Now that I am in college, it is more than okay to branch out. ” So I began telling the story of John and our horrible night. Rushes of emotions were running through my veins.

Honestly, it put me in the worst mood. I didn’t want to think about it. As if this night wasn’t already horrible, I had to relive it in my head and describe every detail of it. I didn’t want to think of John and how annoying he was, but that’s all I could do. I was tempted to text or call him and let him know I was writing a paper about him, but I decided it wasn’t appropriate. It took a lot of strength to continue to write the paper, because this only happened about two weeks ago, but, looking back, I am glad I did it.
