A Day at the Lake
At three o’clock in the afternoon my day of working in the scorching summer heat was finally over, time to make the 20 minute trip home and relax. As I open the door to my truck I am blasted by the sudden wave of heat from the truck baking in the sun all day. As quickly as I can, I roll down the windows and start driving before I die of heat exhaustion. When I pull up to my house, I give a big sigh of relief as I can hear that the air conditioning has kicked on. As I walk in the first thing I do is head straight for the shower, I scrub and rinse all the grime, sweat, and oil off my body noticing a dark ring around the drain as I step out. I dry off and put on some clean clothes and fall in to the soft comforting cushions of my couch. I catch a bright green dot out of the corner of my eye, my phone, and as I swipe my finger across the screen it shows me that I have a text from Morgan. “Hi hunny I’m camping out at portage lake do you want to come out and go swimming?” Before my brain can even go over the options my fingers respond with a “yes!” I run up to my bedroom and rummage around until I find my swim trunks and flip flops, I quickly throw on the trunks and flops and head for the door, but just before I shut it I remember to go back and grab my towel. I hop into my truck and again am blasted with heat and can’t help but be envious of the cars with air conditioning, when I notice my gas gage I also become envious of the cars that get better than 14 miles per gallon. Before I get on the highway I stop at the gas station and try to make the needle hit at least the half way mark. I turn right and start onto the onramp, still feeling the sting from the gas pump I do my best not to floor it as I get up to highway speed. I drive for 25 minutes until I get to Portage Lake State Park. I drive by the guard shack and am given the signal to continue on through.
