Richard Branson
The entrepreneur, overachiever, adventurer and business magnate that I’m doing my research on is Sir Richard Branson. He was born on 18th July 1950. He is well known for his Virgin group and over 300 companies (Wikipedia). Richard Branson is well known as the entrepreneur who dropped out of high school at the age of 16 and started his first business with a magazine called Student. It was a great success and so he started up a mail-order record business to fund his magazine. Soon he was able to develop his business venture by opening up a chain of record stores in London known as Virgin Mega stores. He made investment after investment in fact in the 1984 he set up virgin Atlantic airways which was a great success till now and made profits in its first year of service and later expanded the virgin records music label. Richard Branson is currently the 4th richest man in Britain with a net worth of $4.6 billion. It takes great entrepreneurial skill to achieve this success and Branson had it. Branson doesn’t like anything traditional; he takes traditional and makes it modern. He takes and delivers old services and products in new ways while focusing on industries where the customers were poorly served and serving them even better (about.com). This is part of what has let Branson to his success.
Richard Branson had many ideas and companies to be formed. In 1984 he formed virgin Atlantic airlines, because he wanted to provide better service for the customers unlike other airlines which he thought wasn’t luxurious enough. The airline offered free food and beverages and also better in-flight entertainment systems like the back seat display which allowed you to watch movies or do many other things.
