Interview Project: Compare and Contrast Two Manager
Management has been playing a crucial role in every company since it can decide whether a company can work efficiently or has good and loyal employees or not. In order to understand deeper about how management is applied in real workplace, we have interviewed two managers. One is an owner of a family factory which produces leather shoes (Mr. A), while the other is an owner of a company of foreign-brand cosmetics (Mr. B). After analyzing, we found out some similarities and differences in the way they manage their employees, which are showed in detail as below:
As the owner of the company, they both take a huge responsibility in setting strategy and vision for the organization, even in the budgeting and human resource management. Their management principle is based on understanding and motivating employees without forcing or threatening them. They believe that managing people should not be stretching out the distance between the boss and subordinates but should be building the relationship between colleagues, who do the business together and profit themselves.
Both of them agree that employee’s education level is not a big challenge as Mr. A stated “It’s just a matter of time. You just spend effort on training them day by day. Especially, with one having low education level, you should not point directly or indirectly about their weakness; it is better to boost them by saying that they are really good at something else.”
When an employee does not perform well, both Mr. A and Mr. B choose the way of discussing with that employee in private to avoid making embarrassment. For example, in the situation of Mr. B, when a salesperson performs worse than usual, discussion between them will be set up to figure out whether that failure comes from his/her own ability or from some other reasons such as the competitive prices of other company, the cutting…
