Pretty Little Liars of Salem
The Salem witch trials of 1692 caused a lot of confusion and chaos. Civilians did not know what to do and just started accusing people who were not guilty of being witches. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, many people who have been accused of being a witch go through the witch trials. Reverend Hale is a unique character that attributes to the witch trails. Hale is determined to save as many people as possible in a caring manner.
Reverend hale shows determination all throughout the play. For example, When Hale first arrived in Salem he said, “In these books the Devil stands stripped of all his brute disguises. Here are your entire familiar spirits your incubi and succubi; your witches that go by land, by air, and by sea; your wizards of the night and of the day. Have no fear now-we shall find him out if he has come among us, and I mean to crush him utterly if he has shown his face!” (185). This shows how focused on finding any signs of the devil and will show no mercy. This is because he wants the town to be safe once again. Another example is when Reverend Parris wants to question the people who signed the petition, but Francis has given his word that the names would be kept secret. Parris says that by not giving the names it is a clear attack on the court. This is when Reverend Hale jumps in to say, “Is every defense an attack upon the court? Can no one?”(212). This is significant because this is the first time Hale crosses the line and speaks up against the court. This is not a normal response of a reverend that should have faith in the court. Hale is not only determining but also caring.
In addition, Hale is also caring. For example, Reverend Hale tells Elizabeth, “Let you not mistake your duty as I mistook my own.  I came into this village like a bridegroom to his beloved, bearing gifts of high religion; the very crowns of holy law I brought, and what I touched with my bright confidence, it died; and where I turned…
